Theme: The First Conditional sentences.

Aims and objectives:

-  To have students’ review the usage and formation of the first conditional sentences.

-  To have students’ develop their listening, writing and speaking skills.

-  To have students’ increase interest to English through pair and group work.

Type of the lesson: systematization and developing skills and abilities.

Equipment: presentation of the lesson, personal computers, handouts with exercises, scrambled sentences.

Plan:

I.   Preliminaries and warm-up:

-    Discussing the aims of the lesson.

-  Putting the words in the correct order. (slide 2; scrambled sentences for each student)

II.  Presentation:

    • The rule. Revision. (slide 3)

III.   Practice:

    • Complete the sentences with the verb in the correct tense. (slide 4)
    • Check yourselves. (slide 5)
    • Look at the pictures and form the sentences. (slide 6)
    • Sing a song “Do your ears hang low?” (slide 7-8)
    • Watch a video. Give advice. (slide 9-15)
    • Fortune teller. (slide 16)
    • Superstitions. Match two parts of the sentences.

IV.   Production:

  • Write the prediction of your future.

V.   Conclusion and home task:

-          Estimate the students’ knowledge.

-          Giving home task (write the superstition you believe in)

Outline:

I.   Preliminaries and warm-up:

-          Good afternoon, children. Good afternoon dear guests. Today at this lesson we have to work with the first conditional sentences. And it is the theme of our lesson. Let’s begin our lesson with the first task.

-          Tick the slide. (slide 2) now you have to put the words in the correct order. You have a minute to do it. Who has the same sentences, please sit together.

II.    Presentation:

    • The rule. Revision.

-          What are these sentences?

-          When do we use the first conditional sentences?

-          How many clauses do we have?

-          What tense do we use in IF clause?

-          How do we form Present Simple?

-          How can you make negative sentences?

-          How do you make questions?

-          What tense do we use in the main clause?

-          How do you form the Future Simple?

-          How do you make negatives?

-          How do we form questions?

-          Look at the next slide and be sure you were right. (slide 3)

III.   Practice:

    • Slide 4.

-          Let’s continue and do the next task. Look at the next slide.

-          Your task is to complete the following sentences with the verb in the correct tense.

-          You have to work in the sheets of paper on your desks. But first write the date and your name.

-          Let’s check it together.

-          Read a sentence by sentence.

  • Slide 5.

-          Look at the next slide and check yourselves.

-          Correct the mistakes if you have them.

-          Write how many mistakes you have. One verb-one mistake.

  • Slide 6

-          At this time I think you are ready to make sentences yourselves.

-          Look at the next slide. Your task is to look at this pictures and form sentences in the first conditional.

-          Who wants to begin?

Answers:

1)      If you eat too much, you will get fat.

2)      If the sun shines, we shall go to the beach.

3)      If you need help, you will phone me.

4)      If you have an umbrella, you won’t get wet.

5)      If your dog is hungry, you will feed it.

6)      If it rains, they will play board games.

7)      If you work in the garden, you will have nice flowers.

  • Song.

-          Now let’s have a rest and sing a song that is called “Do your ears hang low?”

-          Please stand up, watch the video and sing a song.

  • Slide 9-15

-          Come here and take a sheet of paper.  Open it and find your group.

-          If you have a photo camera, you have to sit here.

-          If you have video camera, you have to sit at the second computer.

-          If you have computer screen, you have to sit at the last computer.

-          Now you have to work in group. Your task is to watch the video, make a poster where you have to present the information about this boy and give advice.

-          To do this task you have five minutes.

-          Now let’s check.

  • Slide 16.

-          I’ll give these posters to these boys and if they follow them they will change their future.

-          I think everyone is interested in the future. And today we have a chance to know it.

-          We have a student that has a talent to see the future. Please Timur, come to us and tell us our future.

-          We want to know it.

-          These predictions will come true if you believe in them.

-          But sometimes people believe in predictions that another people once said. And one of them is about black cat. Look at the next slide (slide 17)

-          Everyone knows this superstition very well.

  •  Slide 18

-          Let’s work with some English superstitions.

-          Look at the next slide. Your task is to match two parts of the sentences.

Answers:

1)      If you catch a falling leaf on the first day of fall, you will not catch cold all winter.

2)      If the sailor wears an earring, he will not drown.

3)      If you break a mirror, you will have 7 years of bad luck.

4)      If you make a wish when you see a shooting star, it will come true.

5)      If you open an umbrella indoors, everyone, who lives in the house, will have bad luck.

Children:

-          Some of you have prepared other superstitions. Would you like to tell us them?

( children say English, Russian, Kazakh and Korean superstition)

IV.   Production:

-          Now you have a chance to make prediction of your future. Take a sheet of paper. Write down a sentence. Roll it and save. If you believe in it, it will come true.

V.    Conclusion and home task:

-          At home you have to ask your grandparents the superstitions they believe in and write in the exercises book.
