Theme: «A picnic day»

Aims:

  1. to  introduce grammar structure “Would you like…?”, teach vocabulary “Fruits and vegetables”, revise and practise previously taught vocabulary;
  2. to develop speaking, listening and reading skills;
  3. to arouse students interest in learning the English language by means of games.

Equipment and Handouts: computers, Power Point Presentation “A picnic day”, cards “Bingo” and “fish”, colouring pencils, tape recorder, worksheets.

Lesson procedure

I.                   Greeting

T: Good morning, children and our dear teachers. Sit down please. Children let’s sing a song “The sun wakes up.” and greet our guests. Click on ‘sun’ and let’s start.

  • Presentation of theme “Invitation”

Ss find English equivalent for Russian words and open a picture “Picnic”

T: There is a letter for you. Let open it. Find words and read a letter.

Ss read the letter.

T: Children, Emma, Ned, Jill, Becky and Sam, from Clifton invite us for a picnic. Let’s go to a picnic.

II.                Warm up

  • Speaking “Planning”

T: Children tell me please what are you going to wear, take for a picnic? And what are you going to eat? Fill the sentences with your answers.

I am going to wear… (clothes)

I am going to take… (things)

I am going to eat… (food, fruits, vegetable)

I am going to go by… (transport)

III.             Checking home task

  • Flash game “At the supermarket” (Review of grammar: Short answers “Is there/Are there?”)

T:  And now let’s go to the supermarket. Here’s the supermarket. Read the shopping list. Are there things on the shopping list? Click the red square and let’s play a flash game.

Answers:

Is there any fish on the shopping list? Yes, there is.

IV.             Pre-task

  • Presentation of vocabulary “At the market”

Ss look at the slides and name fruits and vegetables and colour new words with colouring pencils.

T: Children, look at the table with words. We’re going to the market. Take your colouring pencils, they will help us. Name the fruits and vegetables. If you see new word colour it on your paper.

Ss read the words.

T: let’s read new words with me.

Ss fill in the blanks

T: Children click on the letters and check you spelling,

Answers: pepper /corn/grapefruit/pineapple/cherry/pear/plum/apricot/kiwi fruit/cucumber/beans.

V.                Review of grammar “At the park.”

  • Game “Set the table for picnic” (Review grammar “There is/are”)

Ss say the sentences in English and find the answer on the picture.

T: Children, we’re at the park. Let’s set the table for a picnic.

Answers:

There is a watermelon.

There is some ice cream.

There are some sandwiches.

There are some strawberries.

There is some orange juice.

There are some bananas.

There is some salad.

  • Grammar “is/are/isn’t/aren’t/some/any”

VI.             Let’s sing

Ss sing a song “I Love the Flowers”

VII.          Follow up “Picnic”

  • Pre-listening (Grammar structure “Would you like some…?”)

Ss look at the picture and listen to the dialogues.

T: Children, look at the picture and tell me who they are? Let’s listen to the dialogue.

Ss look through the picture and find sentences with structure “Would you like some…?”; “I’d like…”

T: Look at the sentences and find them on the picture and read.

Answer:

Would you like some sandwiches?

Would you like some melon?

I’d like some strawberries.

I’d like some sandwiches.

Would you like some ice cream?

I’d like some lettuce and tomatoes.

  • Listening

SS listen to the text twice and match questions and answers and number the sentences.

T: Listen to the track again and put numbers on your pictures.

Ss check their answers. Ss look at the slides and choose the answers.

T: Let’s check your answer. Read the question and click your answer. Say whether this is right or wrong.

VIII.       Summing up “Let’s play”

  • Game “Fishing bingo.”

T: Good job! Let’s go fishing. Take ‘a fishing rod’ and catch a fish. Tick all pictures on your bingo card and you may say “Bingo”

IX.             Evaluation “Test”

  • Let’s do the test.

Ss do the test: choose the correct answer.

WB: p57 ex 1 - Look at the pictures and write words. WB: p57 ex 2 - Write sentences.
