Theme: Superlative degree/Animals.

The aims:

  1. to consolidate and practise superlative degree of comparison of adjectives; to revise the words on theme “Animals”;
  2. to develop such abilities as analysis, comparison andgeneralization; skills of searching reading; speaking, listening skills;
  3. to bring up the ability of working in groups; positive care to animals.

Expecting results: SWBAT practise the use of superlative degree of adjectives;

Aids: computers, multimedia devices, software (Power Point Presentation), worksheets.

II. Warm-up

1. SS are asked to provide examples of adjectives that can describe animals.

2. So we have written so many adjectives that can describe animals. Let’s describe the following animals using these adjectives:

3. The giraffe is …

4. The tiger is …

5. The crocodile is …

6. The cat is …

7. The whale is …

8. The lion is …

9. The monkey is …

10. The snake is …

11. The bear is …

III. Searching reading

- Ss read the text about hares. The task is to find and underline all adjectives in this text.

Hares live in warm and cold countries. They are small animals. Hares are afraid of everything. They run fast. I think that it is the fastest animal in the world. The most interesting thing that hares can do is swimming. They do it better than dogs!

- SS should explain why two adjectives are used with article “the” and suffix “-est” and with word “most”:

the fastest – the most interesting.

IV. Listening

  • SS listen to the rule of formation superlative degree of adjectives.

 VI. Relaxing

SS are divided into groups of three. They are given cards with images of animals and card with adjective. Their task is to find among the group what animal is e.g. tall, taller, the tallest.

 VII. Presentation

  • Brainstorming. SS are given the question “What do you think what animal is …”

SS write their ideas in the first column of the given table. Next they share their opinions.

  • Listening

 - SS listen to the presentations that some SS have prepared. SS are asked to listen attentively in order to answer some questions according to the presentations.

ü The first presentation:

It is interesting to know that the fastest animal is a Cheetah. Its record is 110 kilometres an hour.

ü The second presentation:

The biggest and most impressive animals are Blue whales. They are 30 metres long and weigh about 125 tons.

ü The third presentation:

The tallest animal is a giraffe. It is about 7 metres high.

ü The forth presentation:

The best eaters are elephants. Elephants eat 100 kilos of food and drink much water a day.

ü The fifth presentation:

It is interesting that the best singers are mice. Let’s listen how mice can sing.
