Theme: Speaking. “The American Dream”.

Aims and objectives:  

            - to have the Ss get acquainted with new information and using it speak on the theme                 

            - to develop the Ss speaking skills and creative abilities

            - to improve the Ss group work, to feel pride for your country

Type of the lesson:  lesson of developing skills and abilities

Equipment: interactive board, presentations, posters, video, paper

Plan:

I. Preliminaries and Warm-up.

Discussing aims and tasks of the lesson.

Warm-up. Watch a video (clip) and:

1. Answer the question.

2. Define the theme of the lesson.

II. Presentation.

  1. Work out the definition of the phrase “The American dream.”
  2. Watch a video (1) and check your ideas.
  3. Think of the origin of this phrase.
  4. Watch a video (2) and check your ideas.

III. Practice.

1. Watch a video (3) and take notes about what the Americans themselves say about “the American dream”.

2. Watch the S’s presentation (1) and speak about new facts for you.

3. Watch the Ss’ presentations (2) and choose a person you would like to vote for, then explain your choice.

IV. Production.

In groups make a poster “My Kazakhstani dream” and introduce it to the class.

V. Conclusion and home task.

Evaluate your knowledge before and after the lesson.

Think of the topic “My Dream”.

Outline:

I. Preliminaries and Warm-up.

Discussing aims and tasks of the lesson.

Warm-up. The Ss watch a video (clip) and:

1. In groups discuss the question: What are the main ideas of the song?

2. Define the theme of the lesson.

II. Presentation.

  1. The Ss in groups work out the definition of the phrase “The American dream.”
  2. Then they watch a video (1) and check their ideas.
  3. The Ss in groups think of the origin of this phrase.
  4. Then they watch a video (2) and check their ideas.

III. Practice.

1. The Ss watch a video (3) and in groups take notes about what the Americans themselves say about “the American dream” (I group-women say; II group-men say), then check as a class.

2. The Ss watch the S’s presentation (1) about Barak Abama and speak about new facts they have heard.

3. The Ss watch the Ss’ presentations (2) about two most possible candidates for being presidents Hillary Clinton/Donald Trump and their election campaign, then choose a person they would like to vote for and explain their choice.

IV. Production.

In groups the Ss make a poster “My Kazakhstani dream” and introduce it to the class.

V. Conclusion and home task.

Evaluate your knowledge before and after the lesson.
