Aims:

-       by the end of the lesson students will be able to use prepositions of place in the sentences;

-       to develop pupils’ reading skills.

-       to cultivate the pupils’ interest to the English language.

Type of the lesson: combined.

Equipment: pupils’ books, computer and PowerPoint presentation.

Outline.

I.  Preliminaries.

1.     Greeting

The teacher will greet pupils: “Good morning, pupils! Let’s greet each other and our guests with the song “Good morning!”

The children will sing the song:

Good morning, good morning
The best to you this morning
How are you? How are you?
I hope you’re feeling fine
And happy all the time

                        The teacher says: “Thank you sit down, please!”

2.     Discussing of the lesson aims.

The teacher: Today we shall revise the new words, prepositions of place and shall learn to use them in the sentences.

II.                 Phonetic drill.

Drilling of the letter-combinations: th, oo, and sounds [t∫], [a:]

 The teacher shows the letter-combinations and the sounds and the reads the words. The pupils will repeat after the teacher and then read individually.

th [Ɵ] path, bath, bathroom

ir [ǝ:] bird, girl

  • oo [u] foot, book
  • oo [u:] room

[t∫] kitchen, chair

[a:] glass, basket, banana

III.              Warm up

The pupils have to look at the pictures and answer the questions:

  1. Where is the cat? -  It’s in the basket.
  2. Where is the ball? -  It’s under the table.
  3. Where is the teddy bear? -  It’s on the table.
  4. Where is the little horse? -  It’s next to the big horse.
  5. Where is the little duck? -  It’s between the big ducks.

IV.              Practice (Revision)

1.      Look, read and choose

The pupils have to look at the picture, read the sentences and choose the correct prepositions.

The correct answers are:

1. The yellow pencil is in the glass.

2. The lamp is on the table.

3. The cat is under the table.

4. The girl is next to the boy.

5. The yellow pencil is between the green and red pencils.

The exercise-book is between the book and the lamp.

2.      The pupils will listen to the song and write the missing prepositions

The text of the song with the correct answers:

On, on, in, in, under, under

The apple is on the table.
The orange is in the basket.
The banana peel is under my foot!
Oops, I slipped!

The monkey is on the box.
The fish is in the bowl.
The bug is under my foot!

Then the pupils and the teacher will check up the answers

3.      The pupils have to tell about their rooms and ask other pupils the questions

The pupils will tell the following:

1. My name is Angelina. This is my room. The chair is next to the table. The bed is next to the table, too. The computer is on the table. The lamp is on the table. I like my room.

           Answer my question: Where is my bed?

           Answer is: It is next to the table.

2. My name is Nastya. This is my room. The bed is next to the window. The chair is next to the table. The phone is next to the lamp. The cow is on the books. I like my room.

Answer my question: Where is my bed?

           Answer is: It is next to the lamp.

Those pupils who answer correctly get the little prizes.

4.      Energizer.

The pupils will watch the video to the song “Head, shoulders, knees and toes” and do the exercises to the music and sing this song.

And eyes, and ears, and mouth, and nose,
Head, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes.

Pre-listening activities.

1) Guess and answer

The pupils have to look at the pictures, guess what room it is and say.

  1. It is a hall.
  2. It is a kitchen.
  3. It is a living room.
  4. It is a bathroom.
  5. It is a bedroom.

2) The pupils will practice the reading of the following words:

hall

bedroom

bathroom

living room

The pupils have to listen to the text and look at the picture

Post-listening activity

Ex. 2 p. 43

The pupils have to look at the given pictures and answer the questions. The task will be done in pairs. One pupil asks and another answers.

Where’s the cat? – It’s in the living room.

Where’s the bed? – It’s in the bedroom.

Where’s the phone? – It’s in the hall.

Where’s Tom? – He’s in the bedroom.

Where’s Sue? – She’s in the living room.

Where’s the bath? – It’s in the bathroom.

Where’s the fridge? – It’s in the kitchen.

Where’s the table? – It’s in the kitchen.

Where’s the chair? – It’s in the kitchen.

6.      Work with the text

The pupils have to read the following text.

Hello! My name is Andy! My house is big. The bathroom is between the bedroom and my room. The bedroom is big. The lamp is next to the bed. The computer is on the table in my room. The kitchen is next to the living room. The fridge is in the kitchen. The table is in the kitchen, too. The cat is under the chair. The basket is on the table. The TV is in the living room. The phone is in the hall. I like my house!!!

Post-reading activities.

1) The pupils have to match the pictures and the given sentences. Firstly, they have to do individually, then they have to check up on the board.

2) True/False activity.

1.     The house is little. False. The house is big.

2.     The bedroom is big. True.

3.     The bathroom is next to the bedroom. False.The bathroom is between the bedroom and his room.

4.     The computer is on the table in the kitchen. False. The computer is on the table in his room.

5.     The basket is on the table. True.

6.     The TV is in the bedroom. False. The TV is in the living room

7.      Test

The pupils have to do the following test based on the picture:

The blue ball is … the pink ball and green ball.

The pupils have to do the test, change with the partner and check up.

If pupils have 3 right answers the teacher gives 3 “smiles”

If pupils have 2 right answers the teacher gives 2 “smiles”

If pupils have 1 right answer the teacher gives 1 “smiles”

If pupils have no right answers the teacher doesn’t give “smiles”

V.                Conclusions

Making the comments on the lesson

The teacher will ask pupils: What have we done today?

Giving the marks and the home task

The teacher will put the marks for the lesson.

The teacher will give the home task: to tell about house or room.

Saying “Good-bye”

The teacher will say pupils: “Please, stand up! Good-bye, pupils!”

The children will stand up and answer: “Good-bye, teacher!”
